Now more than ever, organizations like T.A.P.S. are essential. As technology continues to shape our global society, representation in STEM is not optional. It is necessary. The barriers faced by Black and Afro-descendant professionals in pursuing and sustaining STEM careers are complex and often systemic. Despite this, you have persisted. Many of you have broken barriers, navigated spaces with limited representation, and created pathways where none previously existed. That perseverance is powerful, and it carries responsibility.
As knowledgeable and accomplished professionals, we are called to expose opportunity, share expertise, and strengthen the pipeline for the next generation. T.A.P.S. remains committed to equipping both current and emerging STEM leaders through intentional programming, mentorship, professional development, and strategic partnerships. Even in a climate where affinity-based efforts may face scrutiny, our commitment to excellence, community service, and empowerment remains unwavering.
In 2026, we will continue expanding our programs, strengthening partnerships, and refining our initiatives to ensure sustainability and measurable impact. We will celebrate the achievements within our T.A.P.S. family while advocating for equitable access to education, career mobility, and leadership opportunities. Our work is not reactionary. It is visionary. We are building infrastructure that will endure beyond political cycles and policy shifts.
I encourage you to remain engaged, connected, and bold. Your voice, expertise, and presence matter deeply. Thank you for your continued support, your resilience, and your belief in what we are building together. I look forward to another year of growth, service, and impact.
With Dedication,
Niasia T. Williams

The President’s Welcome
Technical Association for Professionals in STEM - Feburary 2026
As we step into 2026, we do so with clarity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to our mission. Each new year brings opportunity and challenge, and this moment in our history is no exception. The Technical Association for Professionals in STEM (T.A.P.S.) continues to stand firmly on a 36-year legacy of service, leadership, and impact throughout Connecticut and Southern New England. What began as a spark in 1990 and took shape into a new vision in 2020 has grown into a thriving organization thanks to the dedication of STEM professionals who believe in community, excellence, and collective advancement.
Our national landscape has shifted in significant ways. In early 2025, executive actions across the United States aimed at restricting or dismantling Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives created new obstacles for affinity organizations and professionals of color. Across industries, programs that once supported access, mentorship, and advancement have been reduced or reframed. These developments present real challenges, particularly for communities of Afro-descendant professionals who remain underrepresented in STEM fields. Yet history has shown us that progress is rarely linear, and resilience is woven into our story.
